Everything you need to write about Weaver Audio and Tangle, the free modular effects rack: the facts, the release, the founder, the logos, product stills and the faceplate art. Take what you need; the zip has all of it.
At a glance
prices and module counts on this page are read from the store at build time, so they match what the site charges today.
Product stills
Frames from the Tangle launch film, rendered from the plugin itself. Click for the 1600-wide copy; the 4k original is linked under each one.
Faceplate art
Every module has a faceplate drawn for it. These are the 15 most useful for a story: the 6 that come free with the rack and the ones with a walkthrough film. Each links to its product page; the full-size png of any of the 76 modules is at images/modules/<slug>.png, and the store wall has them all.
Logos
The mark is a low-poly kookaburra. It sits on paper or on ink, never on a photograph, never recoloured, never in a rounded container. The wordmark is weaver audio, lowercase, in Inter Tight Bold.
Link-preview cards
Films
Module walkthroughs on the Weaver Audio YouTube channel. Every sound in them is the plugin itself. Embedding is fine.

Figures marked with a token in the source file are filled in from the live site on every build: module counts, prices and free-module names are never typed here. Everything else is hand-authored. Updated 23 October 2026.

what it makes
One modular architecture, sold two ways.
Tangle is a modular effects rack that runs as a plugin inside the DAW. You start with an empty rack, add modules from a menu, and patch cables from any jack to any other, by hand or by pressing randomize and letting the rack build a patch for you. Every knob is a patch point: a cable on it makes it move. The rack itself is a free download.
The modules are the same DSP, re-issued one at a time as ordinary single effects plugins. One licence unlocks a module both inside the rack and as its own plugin. They are sold three ways and all three are stated on the page: one at a time for a one-off price, as an all-access monthly subscription, or as a one-off bundle of every module.
tangle, the rack
| what it is | A cable-patchable modular effects rack, as a VST3, Audio Unit and AAX plugin |
|---|---|
| price | Free. The download needs a free account; no card is asked for. |
| modules in the rack | 93: 76 audio modules and 17 cv and logic tools |
| free with the rack | The whole cv and logic system, plus 6 audio modules: monster energy, long tan, salt of the earth, gorpy, flanger turnout 2, canary |
| the rest | Every other audio module is a paid licence, unlocked inside the rack and as its own plugin by the same licence |
| families | compressor & dynamics · delay & echo · filter · fuzz & distortion · generative voice · granular · lo-fi & bitcrusher · phaser, flanger & comb · pitch & frequency shifter · resonator & physical model · reverb · spatial & motion · spectral |
| randomize | One press rolls a new patch: modules, cables and knob positions. Every roll is kept, so a patch is never lost to the next one. |
| cv and logic | Clocks, LFOs, envelopes, followers, quantizers, logic gates, slopes and a scope. Any of them can drive any knob. |
| track layouts | Ships as three plugins so it fits the track it is on: Tangle (stereo), Tangle Mono Stereo (mono in, stereo out) and Tangle Mono |
| sessions | Controls are never removed and their ids never reused, so a patch reopens correctly on a newer build |
the modules as plugins
| how many | 76 audio modules, each as a standalone effects plugin |
|---|---|
| one at a time | US$25, one-off. Perpetual licence: it does not expire, and it works offline between a licence check every three months or so. |
| all-access | US$9 a month for every module, in the rack and as plugins. Cancel any time; a licence you bought outright is never touched by cancelling. |
| everything, outright | Tangle Complete: US$399 one-off for every module, 77% under buying them singly |
| trial | 14 days free, as its own plugin, on your own material. No card. |
| refund | 30 days, no questions asked, to the card you paid with |
| formats | VST3 (macOS and Windows), Audio Unit (macOS), AAX (Pro Tools, macOS and Windows) |
| what each one is | A single effect with the module's modulation built in, plus the rack's dry/wet, randomize and preset system |
| what they are not | Not an instrument and not a standalone app. They are effects, and they need a host. No MIDI in or out. |
system requirements
| macos | 11 (Big Sur) or later. Universal binary: native on Apple Silicon and Intel, no Rosetta. |
|---|---|
| windows | 10 or later, 64-bit |
| linux | Not supported, and not planned |
| host | Any 64-bit DAW that loads VST3, Audio Units on macOS, or AAX in Pro Tools. Reaper, Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Studio One, Bitwig, Cubase, FL Studio and Pro Tools all qualify. |
| not shipped | VST2, AUv3, CLAP, a standalone application |
| activation | Online once, when you enter a serial or start a trial. Re-confirms roughly every three months; offline in between. |
| copy protection | A serial and an account. No iLok, no dongle. |

licensing, in plain terms
These are restatements of clauses in the Terms & Conditions, not promises beyond them.
- A licence you buy is perpetual. It does not expire.
- If the licence server is ever retired, a release that does not need it is published first.
- Discontinuing a product does not switch it off. Licences already issued keep working.
- A licence is revoked in exactly two cases: a breach of the terms, or a refunded or charged-back purchase.
- The update check carries no serial, no email and no account id.
the founder
David Weaver is a sound programmer and audio tool developer. He has worked in game audio for studios including Blizzard, Epic Games, Respawn, Firaxis, PlaySide and Big Ant. Weaver Audio is his own shop: one person, one architecture, every module built by hand.
Phrasing rule: the studio history is work experience. Never imply endorsement, partnership, or that those studios use or recommend Weaver Audio products.
the look
The visual identity is called Sightless Eye Paper: warm paper grounds, near-black ink, hard corners, one oxblood accent, and a module's faceplate art as the hero image. Every module has its own faceplate, drawn for it, with a glyph and a colour of its own. The plugin ships with a paper theme and an ink (dark) theme.

76 hand-built audio modules and a full cv and logic system, patched by hand or by one press of randomize. Every audio module also ships as its own plugin, for US$25 one-off or US$9 a month for all of them.
NAARM/MELBOURNE, Australia · 23 October 2026 · Weaver Audio today released Tangle, a modular effects rack that runs as a VST3, Audio Unit and AAX plugin inside the DAW. The rack is a free download. It comes with 6 audio modules and the whole cv and logic system, and every other module in its catalogue of 76 is available by the month or one at a time.
Tangle starts as an empty rack. Modules are added from a menu and patched with cables, from any jack to any other, the way a hardware rack is patched. Every knob on every module is also a patch point: a cable on it makes it move, driven by an LFO, an envelope follower, a clock, a quantizer or the audio itself. A randomize button builds a complete patch in one press, choosing the modules, the cables and the knob positions, and every roll is kept, so the patch before it is never lost.
"I wanted a rack I could afford to fill," said David Weaver, who built Tangle alone. "The sound of a modular comes from the patching, not from any one module, so the rack had to be free and the patching had to be the whole point. The modules are where the money is, and each one is priced like a pedal."
Every audio module in Tangle is the same code as a standalone plugin of the same name. One licence unlocks a module in both places. The modules are sold three ways, all stated on the page: US$25 each as a perpetual licence, US$9 a month for all-access to every module, or Tangle Complete, every module outright for US$399. Each paid module has a 14-day free trial as its own plugin, and every purchase carries a 30-day refund.
The catalogue of 76 audio modules is organised in 13 families: compressor & dynamics · delay & echo · filter · fuzz & distortion · generative voice · granular · lo-fi & bitcrusher · phaser, flanger & comb · pitch & frequency shifter · resonator & physical model · reverb · spatial & motion · spectral. Each module has its own faceplate, drawn for it, in a paper-and-ink design that runs through the plugin, the website and the company's marketing. The plugin ships with a light paper theme and a dark ink theme.
Weaver Audio sells direct from its website. There is no iLok, no dongle and no reseller. Licences are perpetual, work offline between a licence check every three months or so, and the company's terms commit it to publishing a release that needs no licence server before that server is ever retired.
Tangle and the modules run on macOS 11 or later, native on Apple Silicon and Intel, and on 64-bit Windows 10 or later, in any DAW that loads VST3, Audio Units or AAX.
Tangle is available now at https://weaveraudio.com/tangle.html. The modules are at https://weaveraudio.com/store.html.

One line
David Weaver is the founder of Weaver Audio, a one-person plugin workshop in Naarm/Melbourne, and the maker of Tangle.
Short (about 60 words)
David Weaver is a sound programmer and audio tool developer based in Naarm/Melbourne. He has worked in game audio for studios including Blizzard, Epic Games, Respawn, Firaxis, PlaySide and Big Ant. He opened Weaver Audio, an independent plugin company with one architecture at its heart: Tangle, a free modular effects rack for the DAW, and its 76 hand-built modules.
Long (about 150 words)
David Weaver builds audio software. His background is game audio: sound programming, audio tool development and the kind of signal-flow problems that come up when a sound has to work in a world rather than on a track. He has worked in game audio for studios including Blizzard, Epic Games, Respawn, Firaxis, PlaySide and Big Ant.
Weaver Audio is his own shop, run from Naarm/Melbourne. He writes the DSP, draws every faceplate, builds the website and answers the support email himself. The company's whole story is one engineering idea that scales: a single hand-built modular architecture, the Tangle rack engine, becomes an entire product family. The rack is free. Each of its 76 audio modules is also its own plugin, and one licence unlocks it in both.
He sells direct, states prices plainly, and writes the licence terms so that a purchase outlives the company's infrastructure.
Phrasing rule. The studio history may only ever be framed as work experience. Never imply endorsement, partnership, or that those studios use or recommend Weaver Audio products. No studio logos.
Pronouns. He/him.

Questions we get asked
markdown · plain textquestions we get asked
Is Tangle really free? The rack is free: download it, load it in your DAW, and you have 6 audio modules (monster energy, long tan, salt of the earth, gorpy, flanger turnout 2, canary) and the whole cv and logic system to patch with. The other audio modules are paid. We say "the rack is free", never "Tangle is free", because the second one is only half true.
What does a module cost? US$25 one-off, as a perpetual licence. Or US$9 a month for all-access to every module. Or every module outright in Tangle Complete for US$399. All three are on the page at the same time; there is no sale theatre.
If I buy a module, do I get it in the rack and as a plugin? Yes. One licence, both places. The standalone plugin is the same DSP as the module in the rack, with the module's modulation built in.
Can I try before I buy? Every paid module has a 14-day free trial as its own plugin, on your own material. No card is asked for. The rack itself is free, so the patching can be tried for nothing.
What happens to my licence if I cancel the subscription? Subscription modules stop when the subscription does. A licence you bought outright is never touched by cancelling; it is perpetual.
What happens if Weaver Audio stops trading? This is written into the terms rather than left to goodwill. Licences are perpetual. The plugin works offline between a licence check every three months or so. If the licence server is ever retired, a release that does not need it is published first. Discontinuing a product does not switch it off.
Is there iLok? No. A serial and an account. No dongle.
Which formats and platforms? VST3 on macOS and Windows, Audio Unit on macOS, AAX in Pro Tools on both. macOS 11 or later, universal for Apple Silicon and Intel. Windows 10 or later, 64-bit. No Linux, no VST2, no CLAP, no standalone app.
Is it an instrument? No. Tangle and the modules are effects. They go on an audio track, a bus or a send, and they take no MIDI. Some modules generate sound (the voices and sources family), but they are driven by audio and cv, not by notes.
Who builds it? One person. David Weaver writes the code, draws the faceplates and answers the email.
Why the kookaburra? The company is in Naarm/Melbourne and the bird is local. The mark is a low-poly render; it is never redrawn or recoloured.
Why the odd module names? Each module is named like a record rather than like a feature. The plain effect name is on the page too (a spectral scrambler, an octave fuzz, a buildup drone reverb), so nobody has to guess.
Can I use the images in this kit? Yes, for editorial coverage of Weaver Audio and its products. Faceplate art, logos and stills may be cropped but not recoloured or restyled. Please credit Weaver Audio.

name
- weaver audio in running text and headlines, lowercase, two words.
- Weaver Audio is fine in sentence-case body prose and in the legal name, Weaver Audio Pty Ltd.
- Tangle is the rack. "the rack is free", never "Tangle is free".
- Module names are lowercase on the faceplates and in headlines, sentence case in prose: Beach Tacos, Frog Temple, 1BBBA.
logo
The lockup is the low-poly kookaburra mark with the wordmark weaver audio in Inter Tight Bold, and a small naarm/melbourne sub-line in JetBrains Mono. The mark may stand alone at small sizes.
- Clear space: the height of the lowercase "w" on all sides.
- Minimum: 32 px mark alone, 120 px full lockup.
- Grounds: paper
#F4EFE5or ink#1A1814. Nothing else. - Never recolour, stretch, rotate, outline, add effects, or put it in a rounded container. Never redraw the bird.

- JetBrains Mono (Google Fonts) for labels, prices, spec lines and metadata: small, letterspaced, lowercase.
- Metadata is written with interpuncts:
vst3 · au · aax · macos + windows.
graphic language
- Hard corners on everything. No border radius.
- 1.5 px ink borders instead of shadows.
- A faint 4 px dot grid on paper surfaces.
- Faceplate art is the hero image, always. Photography is not part of the system.
voice
Lowercase, plain-spoken, technically precise, quietly mischievous. Real numbers, real signal-flow talk. No exclamation marks, no "revolutionary", no "unleash", no fake urgency.

What not to write. The founder's studio history is work experience, not endorsement: "has worked in game audio for studios including Blizzard, Epic Games, Respawn, Firaxis, PlaySide and Big Ant" is the whole of the claim. "The rack is free"; the modules are paid. There are no awards, no customer counts and no testimonials to quote, because we do not publish any.
