System Requirements

macOS 11 or later, or 64-bit Windows 10 or later. A DAW that loads VST3 — or Audio Units on macOS, or AAX in Pro Tools. An internet connection the first time you activate. That is the whole list; everything below is the detail behind it.

Everything Weaver Audio sells has the same requirements — the Tangle rack and each of its modules as a standalone plugin. So this is the page to check, and the page to send anyone who asks.

Where the repository does not actually pin a number, this page says so rather than rounding it up into a promise. Those spots carry a not verified tag.

Operating systems

macos11 (Big Sur) or later, on Apple Silicon or Intel. This is a hard floor — the plugins are built against macOS 11 and will not load on anything older.
windows10 or later, 64-bit. not verified Nothing older has been tested. The installer does not refuse to run on an earlier Windows, but we cannot tell you it works.
linuxNot supported, and not planned.

macos floor: the build's deployment target. windows: the oldest version tested, not a version the installer enforces.

Plugin formats

vst3macOS and Windows. This is the format the rack and every module are built for first.
audio unitmacOS only. AU version 2, the format Logic Pro and GarageBand load.
aaxPro Tools, macOS and Windows. The installer carries AAX alongside VST3 and AU — tick Pro Tools (AAX) during install. It is off by default because the AAX plugins are much larger than the others and no other DAW reads them. If a release ever ships without it, the components page simply will not offer it.
not shippedNo VST2, no AUv3, no CLAP, and no standalone application — these are plugins, and they need a host.

Processor and architecture

apple siliconNative. M1 and later run the arm64 half of a universal binary — no Rosetta, and no separate download.
intel macNative. The same universal binary carries an x86_64 half.
windows64-bit Intel or AMD. There is no 32-bit build.
windows on armnot verified The installer accepts an ARM64 machine and Windows will emulate the x64 plugins, but this has not been tested and there is no native ARM64 build.
instruction setBaseline 64-bit. Nothing here requires AVX or AVX2, so an older processor is not excluded.

What your DAW needs

the hostAny 64-bit DAW that loads VST3, or Audio Units on macOS, or AAX in Pro Tools. Reaper, Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Studio One, Bitwig, Cubase, FL Studio and Pro Tools all qualify.
where it goesThese are effects, not instruments. Load one on an audio track, a bus or a send — not on an instrument track expecting it to make a sound on its own.
midiNot used. The plugins take no MIDI in and send none out; everything is driven by audio and by the modulation built into the rack.
channelsThe rack ships as three separate plugins so it fits whichever track you put it on: Tangle (stereo in, stereo out), Tangle Mono Stereo (mono in, stereo out) and Tangle Mono (mono in, mono out). You pick the one you want from your DAW’s plugin list by name — each accepts only its own layout. The single-module plugins need no such choice: one plugin each, and it adapts to the track.
sample rateWhatever your session runs at. Nothing here is tied to a particular rate.

Internet and activation

Where it installs

Windows

VST3 → C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3
AAX → C:\Program Files\Common Files\Avid\Audio\Plug-Ins
shared core → C:\Program Files\Common Files\Weaver Audio

The AAX folder is only written when you tick Pro Tools (AAX) during install.

Both are shared folders, so the installer asks for administrator rights. There is nothing to launch afterwards; the only Start Menu entry is the uninstaller.

Every plugin is a small file that loads the shared core, so if you ever move or delete Weaver Audio from Common Files, none of them will load. It is removed automatically once you uninstall the last Weaver plugin.

The installer lets you untick any format you do not use. Installers are signed and notarised by Apple.

Disk space

Not quoted here, because it changes with every release and a stale number is worse than none. Your account page shows the exact size of each installer next to its download button; the installed footprint is of the same order.

What we have not tested

We only claim what we have actually run. These are the gaps, so nobody buys on an assumption:

Windows versions older than 10

The build does not set a minimum Windows version, so an older Windows may well work — but nothing here has been run on one, and if it fails we would have no idea why. Treat Windows 10 as the floor.

Windows on ARM

The installer accepts an ARM64 machine and Windows emulates the x64 plugins, which is the same path most plugins take there. Untested, and there is no native ARM64 build, so expect an emulation cost you would not pay on x64.

Does it work in Pro Tools?

Yes. The installer carries AAX alongside VST3 and AU. They are not ticked by default — the AAX plugins are a good deal larger than the others and no DAW except Pro Tools reads them — so on the components page tick Pro Tools (AAX). On Windows it is included by default and the installer only turns it off when it cannot find Pro Tools on the machine — if you are installing before Pro Tools, tick it back on. They install to Common Files\Avid\Audio\Plug-Ins on Windows and /Library/Application Support/Avid/Audio/Plug-Ins on macOS, the only places Pro Tools scans.
