drivedetector gain, 1x to 16x - envelope sensitivity, so quiet sources can still push the formants around; it never changes the output level.

shiftmodulation depth, not position: how far the envelope drags the vowel away from vowel's resting point, up to two vowels either side. at zero the formants freeze wherever vowel put them.

tighthow much envelope detail gets moved, 0.3 to 3 ms of quefrency - low slides only the broad body and tilt, high drags every narrow resonance along. held below the pitch period automatically, so the harmonics never get pulled.

vowelresting vowel along the u-o-a-e-i path. a, at centre, is no shift; toward u the source's formants slide down by up to 8 semitones, toward i up by up to 10.

bitehow much the input level drives the formant's strength. 0 = the vowel is always at full strength; up high it ducks on quiet passages and saves itself for transients. lower mix is how you ask for the dry back.

mixdry / wet, and nothing else touches it - bite rides the vowel's strength, not the blend, so 100% is always 100%. the wet runs about 43 ms behind the dry, so part-way settings double.

§ what it does

envelope-driven formant shifter

A formant shifter driven by your dynamics. It finds the formants your sound already has - the resonances that make a voice a voice and a guitar a guitar - and the input's own loudness slides them along a five-vowel path while the pitch stays exactly where it was, so the timbre opens and closes with your playing rather than on a preset sweep.

Run it dark for oo and oh, bright for ee and eh, and raise BITE to save the effect for the loud moments. It reshapes what is there, so it rewards a source with some body: voices, guitars, drums, anything resonant.

It runs the same DSP as the module in Tangle; nothing is cut down for the standalone version. One licence covers both: this plugin, and the same module unlocked inside the rack.

envelope followerdrive pushes the input into a fast-attack envelope follower, up to 16x for quiet sources.

two formantstwo parallel band-passes sit at the f1 and f2 vowel formants and move together.

closed to openloud transients open the vowel toward a, quiet sustain closes it toward u; shift sets the depth.

formant qtight narrows each band-pass, from washy and eq-like to vocal and whistling.

lfoSmooth cyclic movement: sine, triangle, square, sample & hold, or a shape you draw.

A rolling capture strip runs beneath the panel, always recording the plugin's output. No transport, nothing to arm. Played something great while you were just tweaking? Click-drag across the history waveform to select it, then drag the slice straight into your DAW timeline.

ARM flips it to ring-capture for hands-free takes.
